| Our tape backup
unit's warranty had expired and the maintenance cost was high. The drive was also
out of service for several days during the past year due to a hardware problem.
This gave us concerns about ongoing costs and the probability of getting a good
backup each night. |
| We selected a
GST AIT-1 single drive backup unit. It has a capacity of 35GB uncompressed and
up to 105GB with compression. Installing the drive on the iSeries was a fairly
simple process. |
| The GST AIT-1 backup
drive has less electronics which means greater reliability. It also provides increased
speed over the previous drive - we have noticed a 12% decrease in the backup time.
It came with a three year advance replacement warranty and will pay for itself
in less than one year due to saving on maintenance costs. |
