The Internal AIT Tape Subsystem is
part of our InternalDR™ family. It delivers high-performance
and high reliability at cost-effective pricing. These single
tape subsystems meet the basic backup needs for small to medium
range servers. They install directly inside a wide variety
of servers and include an advanced operator interface for
visibility over the backup operation.
The Internal AIT Tape Subsystem is
designed for a wide variety of servers. Native connectivity
uses LVD (low voltage differential) SCSI connection.
GST’s Internal AIT Tape Subsystem is available in a
variety of models. Each AIT technology (AIT-1, AIT-2, AIT-3,
AIT-4) is available in different types of server packaging.

AIT tape technology has evolved through
four generations: AIT-1, AIT-2, AIT-3, and AIT-4 and provides
outstanding capacity and performance with a highly stable
technology roadmap. AIT cartridges utilize MIC architecture,
providing rapid time-to-data and multiple load points for
partitioning data.
Native cartridge capacities for AIT-1,
AIT-2, AIT-3, and AIT-4 are 35GB, 50GB, 100GB and 200GB (91GB,
130GB, 260GB, 520GB compressed) with speeds of 14GB/hour,
22GB/hour, 43GB/hour, and 86GB/hr (37GB/hour, 56GB/hour, 112GB/hour,
and 224GB/hr compressed). Scalability is planned to a 6th
generation product with native capacity of 800GB (2 TB compressed)
and a speed of 345GB/hour (900GB/hour compressed). A 2.6-to-1
compression ratio is achieved with Adaptive Lossless Data
Compression (ALDC) technology.
- GST’s internal AIT-1,
AIT-2, and AIT-3 drives compare favorably to LTO-1, DAT,
SLR and VXA technology for about the same price. GST’s
AIT-4 internal drive is nearly half the cost of LTO-2 with
comparable speed and capacity.
– AIT2, AIT3, AIT4 drives are available
with Write Once Read Many (WORM) technology. WORM provides
tamper-proof data protection with non-rewriteable and non-erasable
data storage.
– Attachment features normally required
with external tape drives are not needed. Additional features
required by external tape devices can include:
1. Input/Output Processor
2. Input/Output Adapter
3. Additional towers
– AIT-2, AIT-3, and AIT-4
are backward-read compatible, and forward-read compatible
to future generations.
– Our LCD Display Panel
continuously displays key tape conditions to help operations
personnel monitor the status of the drive and backup operation.
– Floor space or desktop area for an
external tape drive is eliminated.
– Internal attachment of AIT single
drives with a wide variety of servers results in a high
degree of integration, eliminating high connection costs
and simplifying drive containment.
– Multi-function LCD continuously
displays drive and backup status.
– WORM technology supports compliance
with new government data storage regulations that apply
to the tamper-proof safeguarding of data.
– RS232 interface for updating
firmware and optimizing drive performance.
