GST’s Single sAIT Tape Subsystem is part of our EntryDR™ family. sAIT tape technology provides high-performance in a basic GST backup solution for small to mid-sized servers. These models deliver high capacity, speed and reliability at cost-effective pricing to meet basic backup needs. An LCD panel provides an advanced operator interface for visibility over the backup operation.

The Single sAIT Tape Subsystem can backup a wide variety of servers. They connect natively with LVD (low voltage differential), HVD (high voltage differential), and FC (Fibre Channel) interfaces.

Model Overview

GST’s Single sAIT Tape Subsystem is available in a variety of models. sAIT technology is available in two server-to-SCSI Adapter interfaces and one fibre interface:

Low Voltage Differential (LVD). Maximum SCSI negotiation of 160MB/s; the total server-to-storage peripheral connectivity is 12 meters.

High Voltage Differential (HVD). Maximum SCSI negotiation of 40MB/s; the total server-to-storage peripheral connectivity is 25 meters.

Fibre Channel (FC). 2Gbit fibre interface.

sAIT Technology

Native capacities are 500GB (1.3TB compressed) with speeds of 108GB/hour (281GB/hour compressed). A 4-generation roadmap provides for a native capacity of 4TB per cartridge (10.4TB compressed) and a transfer rate of up to 864GB/hour (2.25TB/hour compressed).

This new sAIT tape technology platform delivers high capacity and high performance using a half-inch, single-reel tape and a 5.25-inch full-height mechanism design, dramatically improving the value proposition between conventional tape roadmaps and future hard disk drive capacity trends. As a new class of tape solution, sAIT technology leapfrogs conventional linear solutions, offering significant advantages in capacity, performance, reliability, and scalability.

Capacity – 500GB native cartridge capacity supports large unattended backups. Capacity increases to 1.3TB using 2.6-to-1 compression.

Speed Factors – A 72MB buffer, 155,000 BPI linear recording density, 5,000 RPM recording drum and 2.6 compression ratio all deliver a native speed of 30MB/sec (108GB/hour) and compressed speed of 78MB/sec (281GB/hour).

LCD Display Panel – Multifunction LCD Display Panel (2 X 40 characters) continuously displays exact drive and job status.

Roadmap – sAIT technology's roadmap extends out four generations to SAIT-4 in 2010 with a 4TB cartridge capacity (10.4TB compressed) and 864GB/hour native (2.2TB compressed) speed.

Engineering – Quality designed in at the beginning, building onto sAIT's 500,000 hour Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), 50,000 hours head-to-tape life and 30,000 end-to-end tape passes.

iSeries Connectivity – GST's sAIT drives connect directly to iSeries and AS/400 servers.

Service and Support – A variety of support programs provide installation and onsite service; includes GST’s Accelerated Ship Program (GASP) to get replacement units on the scene rapidly.
