The Single SLR Tape Subsystem is part
of GST’s EntryDR™ family. Single SLR Tape Subsystems
are housed in upgradeable modular enclosures. This subsystem
delivers high-performance and high reliability at cost-effective
pricing to meet basic backup needs for the small to medium
range of servers.
Building-block modularity enables the
Single SLR Tape Subsystem to be upgraded to GST’s Dual
SLR Tape Subsystem to strengthen disaster recovery protection.
An LCD panel provides an advanced operator interface for visibility
over the backup operation.
The Single SLR Tape Subsystem can backup
a wide variety of servers. They connect natively with LVD
(low voltage differential) and HVD (high voltage differential).
GST’s Single SLR Tape Subsystem is available in a variety
of models. Each SLR technology (SLR75, SLR140) is available
in two server-to-SCSI Adapter interfaces.
. Maximum SCSI negotiation
of 160MB/s; the total server-to-storage peripheral connectivity
is 12 meters.
. Maximum SCSI negotiation
of 40MB/s; the total server-to-storage peripheral connectivity
is 25 meters.
SLR (Scalable Linear Recording) tape
technology has evolved through three generations to the popular
versions today: SLR75 and SLR140. Native capacities for SLR75
and SLR140 are 37GB and 70GB (75GB, 140GB compressed) with
speeds of 14GB/hour and 21GB/hour (28GB/hour, 43GB/hour compressed).
It has a 6-generation roadmap that provides for a native capacity
of 200GB per cartridge (400GB compressed) and a transfer rate
of up to 115GB/hour (230GB/hour compressed).
SLR technology provides high capacity
and performance, backward compatibility, reliability, scalability
and the use of existing media now and in the future. Data
is recorded in parallel on four tracks for SLR75 and SLR140.
Data placement ensures that it can be read during a restore
operation even if the media is degraded. The current generation
of SLR technology is characterized by large data buffers,
In-Line Compression feature and an Auto-Sense function that
optimizes tape speed.
– The modular design
of the Single SLR Tape Subsystem protects user investment
by permitting the original single drive unit to be retained
unmodified as part of the upgraded Dual SLR Tape Subsystem.
– The small dimensions and weight of
the modular configurations facilitate the optimum use of
datacenter space.
– SLR75 and SLR140 are
backward-read compatible, and forward-read compatible to
future generations.
– Modularity of design permits individual drives to
be easily replaced in building-block fashion by the user.
– Individual modular enclosures
enable each drive and the mirrored backup controller to
be handled as separate building blocks; facilitates field
upgrade from single to dual drives.
– Multi-function LCD continuously
displays drive and backup status.
– A variety of support programs
provide installation and onsite service; includes GST’s
Accelerated Ship Program (GASP) to get replacement units
on the scene rapidly.
– Purchase price includes built-in 3 year warranty.
