GST’s
media duplication controller provide hardware-level copy and
copy/verify operations.
- Off-line copying with no server
resources.
- Copy provides image copy of recorded
tape.
- Copy/Verify provides image copy
and verify of recorded tape.
- Mixed media support.
- Multiple library/autoloader support.
- Utilizes PCI-X (Ultra 160) Technology.
- Supports LVD SCSI tape devices directly.
- Supports Fibre Channel and HVD SCSI
tape devices via our bridges.

GST Media Duplication Controller is
part of the Commander™ family and provides a variety
of unique capabilities that are not commonly found in tape
backup systems: Off-line copy/verify and an LCD Display Panel
for operators.
The Media Duplication Controller supports
a wide variety of tape drives and libraries. They connect
natively with LVD (low voltage differential) SCSI connections,
and with Fibre Channel (FC) and HVD (high voltage differential)
SCSI through our BridgeLink™ family of bridges.
GST’s Media Duplication Controller
is available in three interfaces. Each interface corresponds
to a controller-to-tape drive configuration shown below:
. Maximum SCSI negotiation
of 320MB/s; the total controller-to-storage peripheral connectivity
is 12 meters.
. Maximum SCSI negotiation
of 40MB/s; the total controllerserver-to-storage peripheral
connectivity is 25 meters.
. 2Gbit fibre interface.
– The copy operation provides a means
of producing an image copy of a recorded tape. The copy
function is performed off-line and requires no system resources.
– The copy/verify operation provides
a means of producing an image copy and verify of a recorded
tape. Again, this operation requires no system resources.
– Multiple copies of one source
tape can be created. After the end of a copy or copy/verify
the source will copied to another target.
– Multiple copies of source/target
tapes can be performed unattended. After the end of
the first copy or copy/verify the Media Duplication
Controller will copy the next set of source/target
tapes.
– Take advantage
of newer, faster SCSI technologies as they become available.
The Ultra 160 standard delivers a transfer rate of 160 MB/second
and replaces earlier SCSI versions: Fast Wide SCSI (20 MB/sec.)
and Wide Ultra SCSI (40 MB/sec.).
– Copies can be performed from
different media types. Support includes AIT, SAIT, LTO,
SDLT, DLT, 8mm, Magstar MP, Magstar, 1/2", and SLR.
– Copies can be performed from
stand alone drives, autoloaders, and libraries.
– Real-time operator information
is provided by the multi-function LCD Display Panel that
continuously displays status of drives, robotics and state
of the backup operation.
– RS232 interface for updating
firmware and optimizing drive performance.
– A variety of support programs
provide installation and onsite service; includes GST’s
Accelerated Ship Program (GASP) to get replacement units
on the scene rapidly.
– Purchase price includes a built-in manufacturer’s
warranty of three years.
