GST’s full range of tape backup and disaster recovery solutions are built around several unique capabilities and the logic for these capabilities is contained in GST’s Tape Controller and Library Controller.

Controller Value

Copy Operation – The copy operation provides a means of producing an image copy of a recorded tape. The copy function is performed off-line and requires no system resources.

Copy/Verify Operation – The copy/verify operation provides a means of producing an image copy and verify of a recorded tape. Again, this operation requires no system resources.

Multiple media duplication– Multiple copies of one source tape can be created. After the end of a copy or copy/verify the source will copied to another target.

Autoloader Duplication– Multiple copies of source/target tapes can be performed unattended. After the end of the first copy or copy/verify the Media Duplication Controller will copy the next set of source/target tapes.

Field Upgrade to Two Drives – Easy field upgrades can convert one-drive tape subsystems and libraries to two-drive configurations.

Fault-tolerant Backup and Restore – In the event of a drive failure with a two-drive configuration, the GST controller continues to operate the second drive, ensuring the backup is completed successfully.

Mirrored Backup Function – For a two-drive configuration, identical sets of tape cartridges are simultaneously produced with no performance penalty.

Hardware Investment Protection – The investment in GST’s one-drive configuration is retained when it is field-upgraded to two drives.

Media Investment Protection – Support for all leading tape technologies protects investment in media.

Real-time Operator Information – Drives the LCD Operator Panel that continuously displays status of the drive and backup operation.

Convenient Drive Interface – RS232 interface on all controllers enables applying firmware updates and optimizing drive performance.

Space Saver – Controllers in external packaging have desktop enclosures with light weight and small footprints.

Utilize PCI-X (Ultra 160) Technology –The Ultra 160 standard supported delivers a transfer rate of 160 MB/second.

Broad Connectivity –A wide variety of servers are supported with LVD (low voltage differential), HVD (high voltage differential) and FC (fibre channel) connections.

Virtual Library Partitioning – The capability provides up to 16 partitions in a single 16-drive library. It enables the consolidation of the backups of up to 16 servers using one GST tape library.

Robotics Monitoring – The LCD Display panel for libraries provides additional information regarding the condition of the robotics in the library.
